BIOGRAPHY

Nathaniel Adams Coles, known professionally as Nat King Cole, born in March 17 of l917 in Montgomery, Alabama, United States. Died in February 15 of 1965 in Santa Monica, California. Cole was one influential pianist of the swing era. This black musician, grew up in Chicago and sang and played organ in the church where his father was a pastor. At 17 years old Nat King Cole formed his first jazz group, "The Royal Dukes" and began playing in Los Angeles. Later formed a trio specialized in swing music. "Straighten Up and Fly Right" was the first chart success (1943) and others such "Sweet Lorraine", “It's Only a Paper Moon,” “(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons,” and “Route 66.”
Cole was regarded among the top male vocalists by his warm tone and flawless phrasing. In the 1950s, he worked almost exclusively as a singer. Witch "The Nat King Cole Show", he debuted on NBC television in 1956 but not lasted, victim to the bigotry of the times. He had greater success with concert performances during the late 1950s and early '60s.
He was present at the Democratic National Convention in 1960 to give his support to Senator John F. Kennedy and was among the entertainers recruited by Frank Sinatra to perform at the Kennedy Inaugural gala in 1961.
